Maria Cadenas has been a leader in gay and transgender issues for the past nine years, and recently received recognition for her work from Fair Wisconsin, a statewide advocacy agency in WI. She is the current Executive Director of Milwaukee-based Cream City Foundation, the second oldest LGBT community foundation in the country. She was formerly the Associate Director of the ACLU of Wisconsin. Maria and her co-author and partner, Jennifer Cadenas, have been together for 7 years and have a 6-month-old daughter.
Jennifer Cadenas is pursuing her Ph.D. in Urban Studies and has attained her masters in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee focusing on lesbian social networks. She has held round table discussions and given presentations at the National Women's Studies Association and the Midwest Sociological Association conferences on issues of Lesbianism and social spaces. She was a columnist for the former Milwaukee Queer Life News for 2 years.
